No, Seriously, I'm Going Home | Well, that was a lot. You discovered an entire other world on your way home, everything alive or dead tried to kill you, but you made it! It sounds a bit forlorn, as I was sad at the time of making this.
VS. The Former Groundskeeper | Hey! The most alive character encountered so far! They're gonna eat your soul like a fine cheeseburger. I aimed to make something somewhat regal and very frantic.
The Underground Mansion | Who'd of thought they just built a bigger house on top of that old abandoned house? What ever is dead here, way more fresh than the other place! Here I tried a longer, much slower paced song than usual.
Ascending The Rose Garden | You're bound to get thousands of thorns stuck in you, but hey, at least the light is there to keep you going on. I aimed for a vibe so overzealous and optimistic, it keeps tripping over itself.
A Home for Nobody | An old abandoned house underground, right next to the cursed well full of monsters, ghosts and other assorted abominations? I'd be a fool not to check that out! I wanted to play with some scale degrees and avoid a single instrument just playing chords for a song.
Here, in the Well | It's dark, it's cold and something is definitely in there with you. This is a remix of a couple of songs from 2013/2014. Just a couple of ideas that got stuck no matter what I did with them. Combining them together was clearly the way to go!
GIVE ME BACK MY SOUL | Nothing like finding out it's gone to get the blood pumping!
I'm Going Home | I felt compelled to revisit an idea I had in 2013. Here it is, music to desperately run away from a time you cannot return to.
Furious Climb up the Mineshaft | Noodlin' around with some soundfonts on a lazy day. I happened upon the chords of this in another 8-bit soundfont, and tested my chords in the Drill Dozer soundfont. Next thing I know, 2 hours have passed and this song happened. I imagine a scene where the main characters are fightin' their way to the top to settle a dispute with the foreman. It probably won't end well for either of 'em.
The Sunshine Channel | Fiddled around with some NES stuff for a project, coaxed me into making a whole new song with that sound. Went a bit beyond the NES capability for the chords... just pretend there's 2 Nintendos duct taped together with a strange double-cartridge thing shootin' this out of it. The sunshine channel itself, I imagine as this small set of a remote islands that get the most sunshine in the world. This would be its world map theme, I suppose.
Aboard The Airship | This is an NES style song that uses the triangle wave for the main melody. It's not uncommon for it to accompany calm scenes, like the story scrolling over the background or healing forests. Yeah, not here. This is music for intruding on an airship headed for trouble and you're along for the ride.
Rinse | Music from a project that I am working on. I've dabbled with it for a couple of years, it's to accompany a trip through some lakes of fire. The plucked string instrument is actually 3 that play in sequence, but they all have the same MIDI. It reminds me a bit of something from .hack GU.
Night | Remaster of a song I made in 2019 to accompany nightly walks in the city streets. I was playing with chords and scale around the time of making the original, I added around the 90 second mark, as I like the melody played in the main part. That sine wave sort of theramin sound is a sample I made in a tracker back in 2015.
Faster Travel | Accompaniment for any travels you just want over with already. That B section has a couple of fun sources, one of them being that video of the little kitten that's not too far from an ambulance siren and the other being the druids that move everything in sight from Spyro 1. No, I'm not sure why I mashed them up either, just thought it sounded cool.
Universal Save Point | The theme for the universal save point, where you get a forecast about the day and your headspace. It's in the fridge. Clean sounding SNES synthwave-type thing. While making it, I checked the fridge a lot, like visiting a save point every time you make a tiny bit of progress - a lot.
Vanish Castle | This is a song I made after work one day. It's the theme to a castle that only seems to exist some times and not others. The title uncounciously made me think of that level from Commander Keen 4 that has much the same effect. I love making chiptune music, whenever I can't figure out what I want for instruments, this sort of thing is always my fallback and it has never let me down.
Monument | "When a human dies, a monument is created in memory of them. They looked... like this right??" This is a song I made in the style of Cave Story. What I had in mind when I made it was this race of bunnies had discovered the last remaining human in the universe and showed them a monument to humanity, a massive graveyard. |
